Punjab State Biotech Corporation identified the agro processing industry clusters based on their geographical presence in the state and networked them with the eminent R&D institutions . The R& D institutions were tasked to identify the prominent unmet needs of the Fruits &Vegetable and Cereal & Grains processing industry in the state.

Unmet Need Identification

Team SAEN identified the challenges, technological gaps, and training requirements of the food processing clusters of the state by conducting brainstorming sessions with members of Food Processing Association as well as Industrial Heads followed by expert visits to 350 individual Industrial Units under fruits & vegetable and cereal & grain processing sectors. These meetings led to meticulous mapping of the needs of the agro-processing industries of Punjab.



Industry Academia Collaboration

To address the unmet needs and plug the technological gaps, Punjab State Biotech Corporation with the help of national level expert committee rigorously evaluated the project proposals received to address the unmet needs of the industry and sanctioned 10 short term industry oriented projects with funding of more than 85 lakhs to PAU, GNDU, NABI and CIAB with financial aid from DBT-BIRAC. Unlike usual research projects, the partner industries in SAEN have offered their units for demonstration and implementation of the outcome of research which would encourage the commercialization of the research leads. With focus on Fruits & Vegetable and Cereals & Grain processing sector, the projects sanctioned under the Network shall focus on waste to wealth generation, novel health foods/ingredients, shelf life extension and addressing the needs of our traditional Murabba and Papad Manufacturing Units of the state.
